Obeliscos

Hey guys,
Today we had to do go out into the heart of Rome and find the obelisk given to our group. When we found the obelisk we had to read inscriptions on the obelisk and document the setting in which our obelisk was found. My group's obelisks was found on the Quirinale Hill and near the Church, Trinita dei Monti. So from Via A. Algardi we took the 44 into the Piazza de Venezia. From there, we walked all the way to the Piazza del Quirinale. We found the obelisk in the piazza in front of the Presidential Palace where Berlusconi resides. The Quirinale obelisk was brought to Rome from Egypt around the 1st-4th centuries AD. The obelisk decorated the inside of Augustus' Mausoleum. The obelisk was lost in time until it was rediscovered and reconstructed by Pius VI around 1786. The obelisk is now surrounded with a fountain (which Pius VII built in 1818) and two statues of Castor and Pollux (which Sixtus V reconstructed from the baths of Constatine twi centuries before). Furthermore, the Obelisk has been rededicated to Pius VI and Christianity to show Christian triumph over paganism. Over second obelisk required no research to be done. Nevertheless, the  obelisk in front of Trinita dei Monti is similarly imported from Egypt by the Romans. It likewise was ruined by time only to be reconstructed by Pius VI. Here are some fotos for you guys to enjoy:
